Melba M. Root Obituary

We are sad to announce that on May 23, 2023, at the age of 85, Melba M. Root (Gas City, Indiana), born in Tipton, Indiana passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Eugene Miller and Imogene M. Miller (Small). She is survived by : her husband Jack Root; her children, Dr. Tina Root-McLane (Bruce) and Timothy E. Root; her brother Dr. Christopher E. Miller (Crystal); and her nephews, Jordan Miller (Megan), Jared Miller (Kaitlin), Bryce Miller (Leslie Miller), Cicero and Max Miller (Holly). She is also survived by great-nieces and nephews and her granddogs.

Heather Nottingham Hickok wrote a sympathy message

“I worked with Melba in the emergency room at MGH during breaks and summer from college. Melba was a huge influence on my life and career in nursing. Melba had a talent of calming patients during one of their worst days and had a compassionate heart but could also be firm when she needed to. I have been a RN now for about 25 plus years and I still think about Melba and all the wonderful things she taught me during those breaks from college and working with her at MGH.”
