He was predeceased by: his parents, Hobart Smith and Hazel Smith (Emily); his siblings, Warren Smith, Wendell Smith, Malcom Smith, Marion Wolfe and Irene Fisher; and his grandsons, Sean Murphy and Eddie Murphy.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Smith (Damon); his children, Mark Smith (Pam), April Conrad (Don), Sandra Watkins (Rob) and Tammy Smith (James); his brother Carl Smith; and his grandchildren, Jodie Conrad (Melissa), Brian Conrad (Amanda), Christopher Hasty (Bre), Thomas Hasty, Misty Canary (Jeff), Alexis Smith and Michelle Kaiser (Johny). He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Swarens Funeral Home (1405 IN-64, Ramsey, IN 47166). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
