He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Kempa. He is survived by: his mother Delores Kempa (Cindrich) of Kingsford, Michigan; his wife Doris; his children, Trisha Kennedy (Keith) of Traer, Iowa and Rick Kempa (Laura) of Grandview, Indiana; his grandchildren, Logan, Grace Kennedy, Carlee and Noah Kempa; his sister Mary Jean Nicolas (Jim) of Iron Mountain, Michigan; and his stepdaughters, Denise Truelove (Scott) and Deanna Mahanand (Ram). He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
