He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Burns and Mabel Burns (Dierdorf); his wife Julie R. Burns; and his sons, Terry and Alan Burns.

He is survived by: his children, Lori Smith, Aaron Burns (April), Emily Gore (Paul) and Katie McLaughlin (Geoff); and his daughter-in-law Kasandra Burns. He is also survived by several grandchildren & great grandchildren.
