He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer McCartney and Alice McCartney; his former wife Karon McCartney; and his granddaughter Desiree McCartney. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Downey; his sons, Gary E. McCartney II and Dustin McCartney (Lisa); and his stepson Jerry Downey (Debbie). He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home (302 N Franklin St, Greensburg, IN 47240). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hands of Hope Food Pantry through the funeral home.
