He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldon Meter and Thelma Van Meter; and his former wife Leah Lyn Van Meter. He is survived by: his wife Darlene Marie Van Meter (Powell); his daughters, Laura Lyn Van Meter and Michelle Barrington (Tim); his grandchildren, Zoe and Noah Barrington; and his siblings, Lloyd Van Meter and Elaine Foster. He is also survived by his several nieces and nephews.
