He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernie L. Johnson and Helene Johnson (Dunham); his former wife Mary Catherine Johnson; his wife Rhoda Johnson; his brother David G. Johnson; and his stepsons, Chris and Thomas Piepenbrok.

He is survived by: his children, Kimberly C. Brown (Jody) and Andrew T. Johnson (Alice Sharp); his stepchildren, Paul Piepenbrok (Jeannie) and Carla Ewell; his stepdaughter-in-law Kristi Piepenbrok; his grandchildren, Leslie Dunfee (Jeremy), Kelly Holmes (Brandi), Lindsey Woodard (Tom), Hayley Pitts (Scott) and Ian Johnson (Kelsey); his great grandchildren, Cooper, Emerie Dunfee, Leland, Nora Holmes, Calvin, Catherine Woodard, Jonah, Jolie Grand, Emmitt Pitts and Stella; his stepgrandchildren, Chris Piepenbrok, Courtney Hayward, Kaitlyn McDonald, Tanner Piepenbrok, Chad Piepenbrok, Lindsey Piepenbrok and Travis Piepenbrok; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Mason, Elix, Indra, Arleigh, Elizabeth Piepenbrok, Carter Hayward, Kendall Hayward and Turner McDonald.
