He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Mercer and Helen Louise Starr (Messner); and his son-in-law Randy Byers. He is survived by: his daughters, Denise Calvin (David) of Gibsonia, Christine K. Byers of Montpelier and Dawne Borgelt (Michael) of Zeeland, Michigan; his grandchildren, Megan Peterson, Sara Kuntz, Brent Calvin, Keaton Byers, Chandler Byers, Noah Borgelt and Luke Borgelt; and his siblings, Mary Ann Houk (Ric) of Montpelier, Carol Jenkins (Dick) of Sun City, Nancy Douglass of Montpelier, Robin Stahl of Montpelier and Becky Apt (Alan) of Montpelier. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
