It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Birtha Lee Turner (Hammond, Indiana), born in Sunflower, Mississippi, who passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her mother Emma Lee Brown; her husband Morris Turner; her stepfather Leroy Golden Sr. of Chicago, IL; and her son Dale C. Hawkins. She is survived by: her son Samuel C. Hawkins Sr.; her siblings, Gloria Blandin, Wilson James, Joe James (Rose), Frankie Brown, Shirley Pugh, Ruthie Thomas (Ernest), Leroy Golden Jr. (Lisa) and Sherrie Golden; and her grandchildren, Valquia Hawkins, Jermaine Hawkins, Erica Hawkins-Thurman (Mario) and Samuel Hawkins. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Burns Kish Funeral Homes & Cremations - Hammond (5840 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN 46320). A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the same location.
