He is survived by: his sisters, Delois, Lena, Ruby and Elsie Gholson of Ettrick, VA; his sisters-in-law, Virginia and Delores; his children, Ladonna Baker, Bernice Griffin, Pamela Kimp, Nathaniel, Jr. (Vanessa) and Carlos Bernal, Sr.; his wife Mary Jo; his stepchildren, Amanda Quarles (Nakia Alexander), Amelia Jeune (Michaud), Adam Quarles, Alexander, Nadia, Rian, Gabrielle and Eric; and his grandchildren, Carlos, Jr., Michael Madison, Wilbert Wyche, Latisha Douglas, Charles, Crystal Jenkins, Curtis Baker, Latoya Hayes, Nathaniel, III and Natasha Wyche.

“I just found out today I’ve been asking people about you and nobody would tell me anything. But I found out you always been in my heart sir. I’m gonna go ahead and become the man in the church you kept saying I was before I even wanted to be. To all of his family I offer my condolences I’ve met Carlos, Nate, Carlos jr I think I and I know Mary jo and the Grand babies. “This was one of the nicest people I ever met he was strong minded and boy h’d tell you real quick how he feel after that wine lol But even on a good day he would tell you how special you are to him. He encouraged me every morning on my way to work and on my journey to chasing my dreams. Mr Nate I caught my dream. It was everything I expected it to be. But knowing I can’t pull up and knock on your door anymore hurts so much. I was coming home for Christmas and I couldn’t wait to see you and talk.”
