He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert E. Metts and Louise E. Metts (Hicks). He is survived by: his wife Judy Metts; his daughter Jennifer Shaffer (Scott); his granddaughters, Lydia Shaffer, Callie Shaffer and Ella Shaffer; and his sisters, Linda Wright, Becky Hildreth and Donna Deutscher.
