He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Smith and Pearl Smith (Tomlinson); his son Joseph "Joey" Smith; his sister Betty Gosnell; and his granddaughter Destiny Nicole Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Young of Hanover; his sons, Lawrence Smith (Tammy) of Madison, David Smith of Austin and Brandon Smith (Chris) of Memphis, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Jasmine Smith, Hayden Smith, Gavin Smith, Mercedes Smith, Dominic Smith, Tyler Shockey, Brian Shockey and Matthew Shockey.
