He was predeceased by: his parents, John Simmons and Mary Simmons; and his siblings, Mary Jane Feinstein, Margaret Duffala and Joseph Simmons.

He is survived by: his wife Josephine Simmons; his sons, John Simmons (Barbara), Joe Simmons (Susan), Jeff Simmons (Mary) and Jay Simmons (Beth); his grandchildren, John Simmons (Erica), Kelly Simmons, Meagan Simmons (Patrick), Joseph Simmons (Alyssa), Tristan Simmons (Eryn), Jeffrey Simmons, Hannah Simmons, Hanna Tapp (Ryan) and Sarah Higgins (David); and his great grandchildren, Mason Simmons, Elliott Simmons, Grayson Higgins, Graham Higgins, Nora Tapp, Isaiah Tapp, Kennedy Tapp, Jeremiah Tapp and Daphne Tapp.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Hospice of the Calumet Region or American Legion Post 66.
