He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Akers and Margie Akers (Nelson); his son Jerry Lee Akers, Jr.; and his brothers, Robert, William and Donald Akers.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda; his children, Christina Akers of Gary, Melissa Toth (Thomas) of Gary and Justin Akers of Portage, Indiana; his grandchildren, Macie Wadkins, Madison Wadkins, Mason Akers and Brooke Toth; his siblings, Sue Austin and James Akers; and his sisters-in-law, Janice Cottrell and Angela Puentez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home (4201 W Ridge Rd, Gary, IN 46408). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
