He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Thornton and Harriet Thornton (Warner); his son Perry Sell; his brother Gerald Thornton; and his brother-in-law Buddy Shaffer.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas Thornton of Pittsburgh, Matthew Thornton (Angel) of Akron, Michelle Mannion, Abbie Richardson (Jason Mekus) of Huntington, Eric Sell (Tammy Buehler) of Huntington and Aaron Sell (Sandy) of Huntington; his siblings, Nancy Shaffer of Akron, Jim Thornton (Cindy) of Akron, Scott Thornton (Fran) of Florida and Rose Marie Sherbine; his grandchildren, Bryan Mannion, Chelsea Mannion (Sam), Eric Mannion (Leah), Brooke Sell, Mariah Sell, Blake Vanover (Shayna), Audra Kimmel, Cole Bolton (Maluree), Payton Sell, Kyler Nondorf, Elijah Mekus, Brodie Kimmel and Avery Bolton; and his great grandchildren, Michael, Gio, Sammy, Shawn, Zaidee, Triton, Bruin, Kamani, Kyro, Kyleia and Averie. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Eckard-Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel (760 E Market St, Akron, OH 44305).
