He was predeceased by : his parents, Donald Allen and Helen Louise McElhaney (Weaver); and his brother John Steven McElhaney. He is survived by : his wife Janice Ellen McCombs; his children, Douglas McElhaney (Jeana), Michael McElhaney (Christi) and Barbara Young (John) of Huntington, IN; his grandchildren, Lindsay Snyder (Collin), Brittany Korff (Daniel), Carley Platt (Kyle), Andrew McElhaney (Kaitlyn), Courtney Wesco (Collin), Lindsey Scher, Jack Young (Jaclyn Boyd), Mitchell McElhaney (Julia Simpson), Graham Scher, Brant Young, Ross Young and Quinn Young; and his great grandchildren, Keaton Snyder, Isaiah Platt and Warner Wesco.
