He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Howard and E. Maud Pipkin; and his siblings, Richard Andrews, Martha Ford, Charles Pipkin and Oliver "Pete" Pipkin.

He is survived by: his wife Naomi Pipkin; his children, Sabaea Pipkin and Edward Matthews; and his grandchildren, Xavier Pipkin, Edwards Matthews Jr., Jamaal Matthews, Devon Matthews and Bryce Matthews. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
