“My condolences to the family. I met Janis in the early 80s while we were graduate students at Berkeley. She was such a giving person especially in her support of other black graduate students in the math department. At NC A & T she was a force. She was responsible for the success of so many students. She prepared her students for the world outside, giving them the tools that they needed to be successful. Her passing was a shock to me. We have lost a very special person. Nate Whitaker”

“To the Family of Janis Oldham, It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of Janis. Even though I never met you , I am comforted by the knowledge that she was surrounded by family members that loved her and shared a deep faith in God. I became aware of her faith when we were both in graduate school in the Mathematics department at Berkeley. I have fond memories of our time spent together when we discussed our courses and life in general. Thank you for a wonderful person. Darry Andrews”
