With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Mattie Welch (Indianapolis, Indiana), born in Talladega, Alabama, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 1, 2026 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by: her parents, John R. Story and Mattie Era Parker Story; her husband Matthew Welch Jr.; and her siblings, John R. Story Jr., William L. Story, George W. Story, Will P. Storey, Lillian Mighty and Izola Story.

She is survived by: her children, Beverly Franklin (David), Brenda Caudle Ray A. (Francis), Welch and Carol Bond (Randy); her siblings, Sallie M. Elston, Rosa May Truss and James E Story; and her grandchildren, Steven Forte, Kemoni Myers, Brandi Jenkins (Aaron), Aaron Offutt, Melanie Davis (Jonathan), Ashley Bond, Maya Caudle and Alexis Bond. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
