She was predeceased by: her parents, Edwin George and Naomi Louise Jann (Burger); her husband Gail Edmon Smith; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Gail, Frances, Annie, Little Love and Lennon.

She is survived by: her children, Marcia Crandall (Asa) and Steve Smith (Rebekah); and her grandchildren, Charity, Glory, Hope, Steven Jr., Jon, Jake, Drew, Chris, Molly, Joey, Heidi, Phillip, Seth, Peter, Sammy, Hannah and Sally. She is also survived by her 30 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

For those choosing to make a Memorial contribution in Ruth's memory, the family has suggested those be offered to New Life Baptist Church.
