He is survived by: his wife Lucinda J. Schmitt of Ireland, IN; his children, Kami Hopf (Ethan) of Jasper, IN, Samantha Schmitt-Cundiff (Tanner) of Holland, IN and Gavin Schmitt (Kylie) of Jasper, IN; his grandchildren, Reid, Elliot Hopf and Leeland Cundiff; and his siblings, Jane Fischer (John) of Schnellville, IN, Jim Schmitt (Susan) of Jasper, IN, Brenda Oser (Jeff) of Huntingburg, IN, Kevin Schmitt (Candy) of Ferdinand, IN, Curt Schmitt (Debbie) of Otwell, IN, Bruce Schmitt (Natalie) of Newark, CA, Jill Bonifer (Pat) of Velpen, IN, Bret Schmitt (Amy) of Zionsville, IN and Stacy Shepherd (Brad) of Noblesville, IN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church (2829 N 500 W, Jasper, IN 47546). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
