He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard R. Spencer and Se Verne Spencer (Claywell); his wife Betty Ann Spencer; and his siblings, Elizabeth Fuller, Merlin E. Spencer Sr. and Harriet Armstrong.

He is survived by: his children, Mark Spencer (Sherry) of Jamestown, Dianna Baxter (Bruce) of Indianapolis and Terry Spencer of Indianapolis; his grandsons, Brandon of Travis, T. J. and Harrison; and his great grandchildren, Lincoln, Veda, Iris, Maizey and Liv.
