She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Knies and Theresia Knies (Nordhoff); her husbands, Edgar F. Schlachter and Preceding; her son Steven Schlachter; and her siblings, Sally Fuhs (Urb), Leona Hulsman (Rudy), Helen Vollmer (Hank), Mary Lee Humbert (Ralph), Ottie Knies (Stella), Bob Knies and Art Knies (Ethel).
She is survived by: her children, Diane Begle (Alan) of Ferdinand, IN, Mark Schlachter (Melissa) of Jasper, IN and Gary Schlachter (Christine) of Apex, NC; and her sisters-in-law, Camilla Buschkoetter of Jasper, IN and Beatrice Knies of Jasper, IN.. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
A rosary will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 3:30 PM at the Becher & Kluesner Funeral Home - Downtown (214 E 7th St, Jasper, IN 47546). Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (950 Church Ave, Jasper, IN 47546). A burial will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at the Fairview Cemetery (1020 Kundeck St, Jasper, IN 47546).
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper or to a favorite charity.
