With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Michael R. Matthews of Jasper, Indiana, born in Washington, Indiana, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 19, 2024 at the age of 76. He was predeceased by : his siblings, Deborah Matthews, Ronnie and Donnie Matthews. He is survived by : his wife Janet Matthews of Jasper, IN; his children, Phil Matthews (Becky) of Driftwood, TX and Heidi Kress (Klay) of Santa Claus, IN; his grandsons, Alex Matthews, Adam Matthews and Matthew Kress; and his siblings, Joyce Noya (Roy), Carolyn Wargel, Joan Wagner, Clare Weidenbenner (Dennis), Irene Hochgesang (Wayne), Agnes Bastys, Elizabeth Crowley, Martha Poehlein (Randall), Marian Jones (Ken), Florence Matthews and Ed Matthews (Martha). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Becher & Kluesner Funeral Home - North (3221 N Newton St, Jasper, IN 47546). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at the Fairview Cemetery (1020 Kundeck St, Jasper, IN 47546).

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church for Masses, the Dubois County Humane Society or to the wishes of the family.
