She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Sermersheim and Veronica Sermersheim (Lechner); her husband Paul Messmer of Mary's Catholic Church; her sisters, Mary Lou Buschkoetter and Nancy Meiring; and her sons-in-law, Randy Schmitt and Gene Schmitt.

She is survived by: her children, Paula Reyling (Kent) of Jasper, IN, Donna Smith (Bruce Smith) of Effingham, IL, Linda Luegers (Steve) of Ireland, IN, Martha Schmitt of Ireland, IN, Dave Messmer (Toni) of Jasper, IN, Kevin Messmer (Bev) of Jasper, IN and Keith Messmer (Jackie) of Newburgh, IN; and her siblings, Sally Schmitt, Gloria Morgan and Dennis E. Sermersheim of Jasper, IN. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
