He is survived by: his wife Sheila Short; his children, Tina Short, Billie Jo Fields and William Joseph Short; and his siblings, Bobby Short (Rose), Nancy Arbuckle (Travis), Carolyn Harris (Joe), Wanda Jones (Jerry) and Joyce Hiddon (Norman). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
