He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Avery and Georgie Avery; and his brother Richard Thomas Avery Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Gorgi Avery and John Thomas Avery; his granddaughter Riley Marie Baker; his siblings, James Patrick Avery (Jennifer), Mary Elizabeth Ferguson (Danny) and Mary Carolyn Mesterharm (Dean); and his fiancé Jade Dixon.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
