He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gavin and Elsie Thomas Gavin; his daughter Kelley Gavin; and his siblings, Charlotte Winstanley, Editha Gavin, Dorothy Houpt, Wayne Gavin, Willard Gavin, Donald Gavin, Audrey Hall, Walter Gavin, Sue Hall, Harold Gavin, Ethel Batman and Pat Knox.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Gavin; and his children, John Gavin Jr. (Regina), Cathi Reed (Bill), Jenny Cook (Doug), Gregg Jackson (Trina), Karen Maxfield (Brent) and Amy Howell (Harry). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
He spent countless hours volunteering at The Community Kitchen, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Habitat for Humanity.
