He was predeceased by: his parents, Jaspar Russell Gaines and Hazel Florence Gaines (Shankster); and his grandson Michael Gaines. He is survived by: his sons, Steven Gaines of Indianapolis and Mark (Judy Gaines); and his grandchildren, Damon Gaines of Indianapolis, Josh Phillips of Austin and Joni Phillips of Princeton, Texas..
