He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Gehring and Flora Gehring (Hasselman); his sisters, Esther Gehring, Phyllis McCarty and Evelyn Shumaker; and his niece Shirley McKinley.
He is survived by: his former wife Frances Nemes; his wife Frances "Fran" Gehring of Kendallville; his children, Kimberly Ley (Robert) of Avilla and Jeffrey Gehring (Leasha) of Westland, Michigan; his grandchildren, Jessica Pierce (Daniel) of Kendallville and Zachary VanWinkle (Stefan VanElsacker) of Paris, France; his great grandchildren, Damon Pierce and Jayden Pierce; his brother Ken Gehring (Bonnie) of Kendallville; his nephew Brad Gehring; and his nieces, Sally McCarty, Luanne Kammerer, Brenda Ulch, Karla Kline and Donna Winebrenner.
