He was predeceased by: his parents, Dale Smith and Lucy Smith (Mendenhall). He is survived by: his wife Virgie Chambers (Cox) of Kirklin; his children, Michael Chambers (Kathleen) of Alpharetta, GA, Rodney Smith of Florida and Polly Stayner of Heartwell, GA; and his siblings, Charlotte Hankins of North Carolina, Shirley Miller of Michigan, Carol Mayhew of Ohio, David Smith (Dale) of Florida and Paul Smith (Marilyn) of Ohio. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
