He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hinkle and Ruby Hinkle (Ashcraft); his son Jason Hinkle; and his brothers-in-law, Steve and Pat Claytor.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Hinkle; his daughter Susan; his children-in-law, Chris Braswell and Ling Lee; his granddaughters, Clara Braswell and Jillian Braswell; his sister Marla; his siblings-in-law, Jay Thurman, William, Kasey Claytor, Tim, Dawn Claytor and Geralyn Claytor (Dawn); and his nephews, Matt Cook, Chris Cook, Wesley Claytor, Joel Claytor, Benjamin Claytor and Christian Claytor.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 22nd 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church (1229 N Washington St, Kokomo, IN 46901). A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, April 23rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jason Hinkle Memorial Scholarship, later to be named the Charley & Jason Hinkle Memorial Scholarship.

“Mr. Hinkle was my middle school teacher at El Haynes back in the mid 70s. My dad was very sick and had cancer, Charlie knew about it and really took good care of me in my middle school years. over the years I have kept in touch with Mr. Hinkle as a matter of fact, we corresponded last year on Facebook for a while. I have been a high school teacher and he was always supportive and very proud of me. I’m sure he influenced thousands of people. God rest your soul, Mr. Hinkle”
