Herbert David Niederhaus Obituary
Herbert D. Niederhaus, 93, passed away September 11, 2022. Born February 28, 1929 in Warrenton, Indiana to Christ and Alvina (Dickmyer) Niederhaus. On December 5, 1948 he married Audrey (Lambert) Niederhaus and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Audrey's passing December 13, 2010.
As a child Herbert learned carpentry as a trade from his father and his skill became a life-long hobby. Herbert was employed in the tool and die/engeneering departments of International Harvester Evansville indiana, Aerojet General Folsom, CA and retiring from Chrysler Corporation Kokomo, Indiana in 1981. After retirement he and Audrey moved to Naples, FL where they continued friendships, many from Kokomo. He had worked part time for Causeway Lumber during that time as a door specialist creating custom doors, a job he truly enjoyed.
In the early 2000's he returned to Kokomo full time being closer to family. He was a member of the masonic lodge, Scottish Rite 32nd degree and the elks and moose lodges. He and Audrey were accomplished ball room dancers with neary a dozen other close-friend couples that followed local dance bands. They enjoyed family times, traveling and hosting many freinds visiting them in Naples.
He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church Kokomo, Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church Naples and most recently Shiloh Methodist Church Kokomo where he often served on committees, being a decon, elder or grounds and in Naples at Vanderbilt ran the sound board for services. In every era and part of life Herbert was known for a fine character moral principle, caring, faith, and helping others. His positive outlook touched everyone he interacted with even in his final years always leaving a positive footprint in life.
Herbert is survived by his three children David Niederhaus Greenfield, IN, Donna Golub Valparaiso, IN and Gregory Niederhaus Kokomo. As well, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings Donald Niederhaus, Melvin Niederhaus, both of Haubstadt, IN. Sisters Valada Schulteis Haubstadt, IN, Joyce Smith Mt. Carmel, IL and Linda Baumgart Paris KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Entombment will follow at a later date in Naples Memorial Gardens, Naples FL.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held October 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Methodist Church 5741 W. CR 100 N. Kokomo, IN. In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Live Like B.
