He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett E. Smith and Fanny B. Smith (Fennig); and his sister Betty Thrall (Howard). He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Kay Smith; his daughters, Beverly Tyler (Aaron) and Jennifer Dobson (Andy); his grandchildren, Bailey Tyler (Loretta Hinds), Kira Tyler, Lucy Dobson and Scott Dobson; his brother Bob Smith (late Helen); and his sister-in-law June Edison (late Jim). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
When asked for his advice for the younger generation, his reply was "To love everyone around you."Memorial contributions may be made in Herb's name to First Christian Church.
