He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Schafer and Sharon Schafer (Kendall); his daughter Amanda Lynne; his grandchild Logan; Kerri Schafer Hartman (Kennedy).
He is survived by: his siblings, David Schafer and Sheila Lamb (Kevin); his grandchildren, Jenner, Cali and Maverick VanNatter; his son-in-law Clint VanNatter (Britni); and his stepfather Orval Gingerich. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
