He was predeceased by : his parents, Lowell Pence and Garnet Pence (Freeman); his former life partners, Estella Shuck and Mary Zell; his wife Margaret Eisenman Swinford; his son Stephen Pence; and his sister Wilma Ball.

He is survived by : his daughters, Rhonda Ridlen (Stan) of Kokomo, IN and Cheryl Rush (Greg) of Galveston, IN; and his sister Wanita Fewell of Kokomo, IN.. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
