Rita Layton Obituary
We are sad to announce that, on April 29, 2026, at the age of 79, Rita Layton of La Porte, Indiana passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Kuszmaul and Betty Kuszmaul (Zook); her son Brett Steele; and her brother-in-law Rick Dilts. She is survived by: her husband Ken Layton of LaPorte, IN; her sister Becky Dilts of Winamac, IN; her children, Julie Koczan of Rensselaer, IN, Troy (Beth) of LaPorte, IN. and Tracy Layton of LaPorte, IN.; and her grandchildren, Jaydon Koczan-Steele of Indianapolis, IN, Jonah and Julianna Koczan of Rensselaer, IN.
As a final act of generosity and giving, Rita chose to donate her body to science, ensuring that even in passing, she would continue to contribute to the care and advancement of others.
