It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wilgus James Smith of La Porte, Indiana, who passed away on June 10, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smith and Laura Smith (Davis); his granddaughter April Zeisig; his great grandchild Ivy Allen; and his siblings, Phyllis Mow, Lois Wayne, Billy Ray Smith and Gail Feleki.
He is survived by: his children, Vicki Schwinkendorf (Mark) of La Porte, Mike Smith (Bonnie) of La Porte and Chuck Smith (Sandy) of La Porte; his grandchildren, Amanda Howard (Jason), Marci Huff (Chad), Mallorie Knapp (Brian), Brock Smith (Ashley), Breane Smith, Shelbi Lant (Alex), Amber Smith and Hailey Parker (Dustin); his great grandchildren, Braelyn, Braxton, Bryce Howard, Rylee, Maddox Knapp, Harper, Killian, Juliette Allen, Hudson, Harrison Huff, Levi, Lucas, Brayden Lant, Alayna Gakle and Drake Cable; his siblings, Jewel Hazelgrove, Frieda Passmore, Mary Ann James, Brenda Gibson and Deborah Humphrey; his cousin Randy Smith; and his aunt Lou. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of La Porte (307 Kingsbury Ave, La Porte, IN 46350).
