He was predeceased by: his parents, Donnel Mitchell and Sara Mitchell (Shultz); and his brother Jack Mitchell. He is survived by: his wife Rita Mitchell; his children, Jody Mitchell Gault and Phillip Mitchell; his siblings, Karen Hettinger of Villagrove, IL and Rex Mitchell (Pat) of Crawfordsville, IN; and his sister-in-law Nancy Mitchell of West Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
