He was predeceased by: his parents, William Stewart Zimmerman and Phyllis June Zimmerman (Barefoot). He is survived by: his wife Lisa VandeZande; his son James Jr. (Stephanie) of Delphi; his sister Carol Zimmerman (Felix) of Kansas City; and his aunt Jane Eastman of Muncie.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Lafayette with attention to organ maintenance and music funds.
