He was predeceased by: his parents, Levon "Pug" and Rita Scheumann (Deere); and his brother Chuck Scheumann. He is survived by: his wife June McKenzie; his children, John "Barney" Scheumann, Jr. (Stephanie) of West Lafayette, Kimmy Armantrout (Chuck) of Indianapolis and Lindsay Donaldson (Jack) of Indianapolis; his siblings, Sue Funkhouser of Pearland, TX, Sally Giese (Scott) of Lafayette, Mary Whitney (Bob) of Venice, FL and Tom Scheumann (Barb) of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Haley Campbell (Ryan), Ryan Scheumann, Nick Scheumann (Connor), Brayden, Gavin Armantrout, Walter and Bruce Donaldson; and his great grandchildren, Parker, Lila Campbell and Emmett Scheumann.

Due to safety concerns during the Covid-19 pandemic, the service held in John's honor will be private.
