We announce the death of Katherine Brown of Lamar, Indiana, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 97. Katherine will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Werner Andrew and Alta Anna Foertsch (Held); her husband Damon Brown; her brothers, John, Robert, Eugene and Roland Foertsch; her parents-in-law, Everett and Alice Brown; and her son-in-law James DeCoursey.
She is survived by: her children, Damona DeCoursey of Huntingburg, Marla DeFreese (Brian) of West Point and Daren Brown (Tammy) of Lamar; and her grandchildren, Kylie Lauderdale (Eric), Erik Brown, Kelsey Menke (Cory), J. D. DeFreese (Liz), Garrett Brown (Michelle), Rob DeFreese (Michelle), Morgan Rust (Kyle), Katelyn Smith (Zach), Greg DeCoursey (Billie) and Julie Kays (Sherman). She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and many family and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Saint Peter United Church of Christ (12338 N St Peters Church Rd, Lamar, IN 47550). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Lamar Memorial or Cemetery Funds.
