He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace Reed "Buster" and Marjorie Loretta Bales (Lankford); his son Matthew Bales; his brother Larry Bales; his grandparents, Ralph, Clara Bales (Clark), Fred and Gertie Lankford (Kirkland); and his in-laws, Fred and Merrimen Bentz (Niccum).
He is survived by: his wife Marie Elaine Bentz; his children, Christa Ellis (Kenny) of Carlos, Joshua Bales (Amanda) of Noblesville and Rebekah Clark (Bob) of Carlos; his grandchildren, Faithlan Wilson (Josh), Champ Ellis (Juliana), Dominic Anderson, Honour Conwell (Connor), Glory Ellis (Colten McMillan), Ephraim Bales, Emma Bales, Jaxon Bales, Judah Bales, Jacob, Levi and Thomas Clark; his great grandchildren, Tyanna Wilson, Myla Wilson, Wynnie Wilson and Nolan Ellis; his siblings, Lynn Lett (Garry) and Gary Bales (Gayle); and his sisters-in-law, Karen Hodapp (Tom), Janis Benner (Bill), Cecile Clendenon (late Russ) and Freda Dees (Preston). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carlos Union Chapel Church for cemetery maintenance.
