He was predeceased by: his parents, Steve Copeland and Agnes Graham Copeland; his wife Lenora Jean Norris Copeland; and his siblings, Grover, Sr., Alva, David "Corky", Robert, Richard Copeland, Annabell Drake, Georgia Day, Myrtle Smith, Frances Robbins and Wanda Ayler.
He is survived by: his son Darrell Vernon Copeland of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Darrell C. Copeland, Alyssa Brooke Copeland and Shelby Lynne Copeland; and his great grandchildren, Brycen Copeland, Brantley Copeland, Madison Copeland-Cullins, Beau Barger, Rys Pearcy, Saban Pearcy and Alexys Pearcy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
