He was predeceased by: his mother Betty Robbins Burgess; his siblings, Rickey Eugene Burgess and Rita Purgess Poe; his brother-in-law Jerry Austin; his half-brother Terry Robbins; and his stepmother Edna "Jenny" Jeanette Turner Burgess.

He is survived by: his son Ray Burgess (Ashley) of Madison, Indiana; his grandson Braxton Burgess; his father Willie Edward Burgess of Milton, Kentucky; his siblings, Benny Burgess (Joanna) of Madison, Indiana, Tracey Burgess Austin of Milton and Ranee Muntz Wilson (Rodger) of Madison, Indiana; and his sister-in-law Lolita Belinda Burgess of Tennessee. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
