John retired from his longtime job with the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions where he worked as a bank examiner. He also worked for several years part time at Strack and Van Til in St. John, J. Riggings in Hobart, and County Line Greenhouse in Hobart.
John loved sports, especially baseball. He loved cheering on his Cincinnati Reds, watching his grandsons' play the game, and playing fantasy baseball with his son. He was also an avid gardener and had a natural green thumb. From spring until fall, you could find him in his yard planting new flowers, pulling weeds, and tinkering with his pond while listening to music or a ballgame on the radio. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and would brag about their achievements. John will be deeply missed by many.
Friends are invited to visit with family on January 22, 2022, at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana 46410) from 2:00pm until 6:00pm. A graveside service will be held at future date at Casstown Cemetery in Casstown, Ohio.
