He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald William and Forest Sadie Whalen (Tuttle); and his siblings, Nancy Bowlin and Ernest Whalen. He is survived by: his son Joseph Todd Whalen of Osage City; and his siblings, Susan Buenger (Lawrence) of Osage City, Cynthia Whalen of Burlingame, Katherine Johnson (Neil) of Burlingame, Richard Whalen (Jane) of Bonner Springs, Greg Whalen (Sandy) of Osage City and Kurt Whalen (Susie) of Lawrence.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (309 S 6th St, Osage City, KS 66523). A rosary will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.
