He was predeceased by: his parents, Theron Cates and Sarah Evelyn Cates (Jordan); and his siblings, Theron Dwayne "Pete" Cates and Carolyn Smith. He is survived by: his granddaughters, Aniyha, Addison, Evelyn, Emery Cates and Nadia Skretkowicz; his brother Kenneth Merle Cates (Karen) of Bend; his sister-in-law Monica Cates of Michigan City; and his sibling's children, Adam Cates, Christy Holcomb, Erin Baurer (Greg) and Sarah LaTess (Roy). He is also survived by his "fur babies" -his dogs.
In his memory, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
