He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd McFarland and Betty McFarland (Snoffer); his son Thomas McFarland, Jr.; and his siblings, Sherryl Gruber, Patrick and Barry McFarland.

He is survived by: his sister Janice Smith (David); and his granddaughter Brianna McFarland.
