He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin M Tiem and Margarite Van Tiem (Fox); and his siblings, Ronald, Paul Van Tiem and Genevieve Seagrave.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Bentley (Powell) of Monticello; his children, Dr. Renee Van Tiem (Valerie Valenzuela), Annette Bentley, Suzette Adair (Bill), Marvin "Tiger" Van Tiem (Victoria), Steven Bentley and Amy Wallace; and his siblings, Ida Mae Goodboo and Raymond Van Tiem (Beverly). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the Monticello Christian Church.
